A stuntwoman has filed a lawsuit against Sony pictures for injuries she suffered on the set of the TV show “Justified”.
According to the complaint, Lisa Hoyle is suing Sony Pictures Entertainment, Woodridge Productions, Santa Clara Studios, and a slew of crew members including the director, producer and stunt coordinators. Hoyle is seeking medical expenses and damages for negligence, loss of consortium, premises liability and “permanent physical and mental injuries” that caused her to separate from her husband.
Hoyle alleges that it is “custom and practice in the stunt industry to conduct a safety meeting prior to the performance and filming of a stunt,” but the studio did not inform her about the meeting. She and another stuntperson were eating during the time of the safety meeting, and Hoyle said nobody tried to find the pair when they didn’t appear at the meeting.
The Incident
“At approximately 1:30 am, on Feb. 3, 2011, as part of their job duties as stunt persons, Hoyle and Robinson were positioned next to a parked car, which was part of the scene to be filmed. The subject stunt involved a car crashing into the parked car that was next to Hoyle and Robinson. Neither Hoyle nor Robinson were informed prior to the performance of the stunt that the car they were positioned next to was to be impacted by another vehicle.”
“At approximately 1:30 am, during the performance of the stunt, the car crashed into the parked car next to Hoyle and Robinson, pushing the parked car into Hoyle, running over Hoyle’s ankle and impacting Hoyle’s body and head, knocking her to the ground unconscious”.
“As a result of the impact, in addition to losing consciousness, Hoyle sustained injuries to her person, including, but not limited to: an open head fracture, soft tissue injuries, bruising and lacerations.”
Later in the complaint, Hoyle claims that the injuries she suffered led to a disruption in her marriage to Robert Jakubik, “resulting in a separation”.
